The recalled product is packaged in 17.64oz/500 grams plastic containers and has an expiration date of 10/31/13 stamped on the back of the container. The product was sold nationwide. It is a product of the USA.

Ferrara Candy Company Voluntarily Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts and Tree Nuts in Brach’s Malted Milk Balls

Ferrara Candy Company (“Ferrara”) is recalling 6 pound packages of bulk Brach’s Malted Milk Balls because they may contain undeclared tree nuts (i.e., Brazil nuts) and peanuts.

Olam Tomato Processors, Inc. Announces Voluntary Recall of Mild and Medium Chunky Salsa Because It May Contain Large Glass Pieces

Olam Tomato Processors, Inc., today announced the voluntary recall of three production codes of Chunky Salsa because it may contain large glass pieces.The labels of the affected product will say distributed by Greenbrier International, Inc.

This product was sold at Dollar Tree and Deals 'stores, Dollar Express and Dollar Bill$.The voluntary recall is limited to these three lots of production, which were distributed nationwide. Visit the FDA website regarding this recall.


Investigation of an Outbreak of Cyclosporiasis in the United States

On June 28, 2013, CDC was notified of 2 laboratory-confirmed cases of Cyclospora infection in Iowa residents who had become ill in June and did not have a history of international travel during the 14 days before the onset of illness. Since that date, CDC has been collaborating with public health officials in multiple states and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate an outbreak of cyclosporiasis.

Epidemiologic Investigation


  Cyclospora- (Cyclospora Cayetanensis, Cyclosporiasis)
  • Organism- Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis


  • Transmission- Little is known about how Cyclospora is spread. Cyclospora does not appear to be spread through direct person-to-person contact. Previous outbreaks have implicated contaminated water and imported fresh produce, including raspberries, basil, snow peas, and mesclun lettuce.

Whole Foods Market announces that it is recalling Crave Brothers Les Frères cheese in response to a recall by the Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese Company of Waterloo, Wisconsin. The cheese is being recalled because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese Recalls Les Frères Cheese Products

Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese Company is issuing a voluntary recall for three specialty cheese products while regulatory agencies continue a multi-state investigation of Listeria monocytogenes.


The products recalled are:
  • Les Frères (LF225 2/2.5#) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in white plastic with a green and gold label.
  • Petit Frère (PF88 8/8 oz) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in small round wooden boxes.
  • Petit Frère with Truffles (PF88T 8/8 oz) with a make date of 7-1-13 or prior, packaged in small round wooden boxes.

These products were distributed nationwide through retail and foodservice outlets as well as by mail orders.

Townsend Farms, Inc. of Fairview, Oregon, out of an abundance of caution and in cooperation with the FDA is expanding its voluntary recall efforts and is now recalling Townsend Farms Organic Antioxidant Blend, 3 lb. bag with UPC 0 78414 40444 8. The recall codes are located on the back of the package with the words "BEST BY" followed by the code T122114 sequentially through T053115, followed by a letter. All letter designations are included in the voluntary recall. The voluntary recall is occurring because of a potential hepatitis A contamination.

Scenic Fruit Company Recalls Woodstock Frozen Organic Pomegranate Kernels Due To Possible Health Risk

Scenic Fruit Company of Gresham, Oregon today announced it is voluntarily recalling 5,091 cases (61,092 eight ounce bags) of Woodstock Frozen Organic Pomegranate Kernels. The kernels have the potential to be contaminated with Hepatitis A virus.

Products were shipped from February 2013 through May 2013 to UNFI distribution centers in  Colorado, Texas, New Mexico and many other states. UNFI distribution centers may have further distributed products to retail stores in other states.
